Oh my God. Every four minutes, it's interrupted by a Papa John's commercial.
The quotation above is from daughter Hannah who is attempting to watch an episode of Heroes on nbc.com.
NBC, as it hemorrhages young viewers, has decided to pull its downloadable shows off of iTunes and offer them "free" on their own site. The rub is the insipid inundation of spots.
"Damn the customer, full steam ahead" is the mantra of the old-line. Whether it's calcified networks or ossified agencies. Shove commercials they hate down their throats.
My kid isn't dumb and she isn't alone. Eventually she will find another way to watch Heroes. She holds nothing but disdain for NBC, unless it is the belief that they are utterly irrelevant.
Seems like the intelligent way to market to the young would be to appeal to them the way facebook does. Too bad all those smarty pants at NBC didn't take this to a group of users first. Since today everything goes to market research to get dumbed down, you'd think they'd do that with these "free" shows. Guess our children will learn there is no such thing as a free lunch pretty early on.
ReplyDeleteYeah I was watching 30 Rock and had the same problem. They have the episodes sponsored by different people and it's usually 2 or 3 different ads shown over and over which by the end of the episode, makes me hate whatever brand that is. (CBS does it too, but I've seen a few decent ads that are more informative and interactive)
ReplyDeleteBut the Papa Johns ones are particular noxious. The acting is - I can't even call it acting. It's just horrible and makes me want to shut my computer, go to a local Papa Johns and punch someone.
If it weren't for the fact that I'm obsessed with Tina Fey...
tell your daughter to try www.tv-video.net I was able to watch desperates housewives there commercial free and I think they have heroes as well
