The Star-Spangled Bagel
O say can you eat, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we sliced at the deli’s last gleaming,
Whose poppy seeds and cream cheese and lox is just right
O’er the whitefish we watch’d and the seltzer was streaming?
And the tomato's red glare, onions bursting in air,
Gave proof through breakfast that our bagel was there,
O say does that star-spangled bagel do that
O’er the land of the free and the home of the fat?
