Annoyed.

One of the tragedies of modern life--and it was ever thus--is that no one has any understanding of the past. No one seems to understand the wisdom of William Faulkner who famously said (and spent a career writing about) "the past isn't dead, it isn't even past."

We carom around making the same mistakes, failing to understand what happened before, pointing fingers and jumping to conclusions. We subvert others to make ourselves heroic. We forget the basics and stick, instead, to pomposity, mendacity and self-aggrandizement. We've built an industry on it.

So we chase our tails and create crises, forgetting that a little moderation, a little perspective, a little thoughtful consideration can unravel most problems.

Lower your volume.
Breathe.
Count to ten for crissakes.

Barring that, shut the fuck up.

You'll probably live longer.
