Since I was about 15, I've been a fan of Langston Hughes. His "Simple" stories and his poetry. "Theme For English B" had a huge influence on me, as did a lesser known poem called "Impasse."
Right now, I am thinking of a poem called "Motto."
I play it cool
And dig all jive.
That’s the reason
I stay alive.
My motto,
As I live and learn,
is:
Dig And Be Dug
In Return.
